Monday 21st January was declared the most depressing day of the year back in 2005 ‘by a university professor who created a clever calculation with a complex formula’, which actually turned out to be a sneaky PR stunt by Sky Travel.
But, the date has stayed firmly in the diary up until this very day and has provided brands with a platform to create and promote their own offers and campaigns to help combat what’s officially become known as the saddest day of the year…
Here are our favourites:
The international office supplies brand is holding a ‘pop-up happiness experience’ in London for office workers to visit from 8am to 4pm. Visitors will be treated to free snacks, massages, smoothies, puppy cuddles, and a super-size doodle wall.
Lucky Londoners will also have the chance to take advantage of a home delivery service by alcoholic drink brand, Aperol Spritz. An ‘Aperol-ivery’ van, complete with its own bartender, will be doing the rounds on Monday 21st dropping off their iconic cocktails to the doors of those who have signed up online.
Rethink’s Bright Monday
Bright Monday is a campaign created by charity, Rethink, to raise awareness and get people addressing the subject of mental health. They encourage everyone to wear the brightest colour they can find in their wardrobe to turn Blue Monday on its head.
Blue Monday is being dubbed ‘Brew Monday‘ by The Samaritans this year. The campaign urges everyone to get together with family, friends or work colleagues for a brew and chat – a small gesture that could make a huge difference to someone who’s feeling down. The campaign also raises vital funds for the charity.
Online greetings card brand, Moon Pig, have announced a Blue Monday competition via their Twitter page. Followers are requested to submit their happiest true fact for Moonpig to use in their #WorldsHappiestVideo. Three lucky winners will receive a Montezuma chocolate gift through their letterbox.
Suicide Prevention is taking over former Wales Goalkeeper Neville Southall’s Twitter to share ‘how #RealTalk saves lives’ live from 7-9pm. Follow @nevillesouthall to join in the conversation.
And if anyone fancies a chat on Blue Monday – Our kettle is always on and our door is always open!
